Cenozoic Era

Mammals were the dominant species in this era.
The Cenozoic Era began 65 mya and is the era that we live in.. Fossils from this era are the closest to the surface, thus the easiest to find. Because of this, scientists know more information about life in this era than they know about any other era. The Cenozoic era is called the Age of Mammals because many mammals appeared during the era. In the earlier part of the Cenozoic, the world was dominated by the birds,  crocodiles like Pristichampsus, and a handful of primitive large mammal groups. But as the climate cooled, other mammals took over. The first human ancestors appeared approximately 4 million years ago. Modern human appeared 40,000 years ago.
