The Jurassic Period lasted from 200-148 mya. The Jurassic was a golden age for large herbivorous dinosaurs such as the Camarasaurus, Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, and many others, their food either the prairies of ferns, cycads, bennettitales, or the higher coniferous growth, according to their adaptations.During the Late Jurassic, the first birds like Archaeopteryx, evolved.  Within the undergrowth were various types of early mammals, as well as mammal-like reptiles and lizard-like sphenodonts. Conifers dominated the flora of the Jurassic and were the most diverse of all the flora and the most common of the larger trees. Smaller ferns dominated the undergrowth. Coralline algae first appeared in the oceans during this period as well.
